Nowoneoftheundead,therestofthefilmdisplaysthetrialsofzombie-Colinastoldfromhisperspective.RudimentarytaskssuchasopeningdoorsarenowchallengingandfrustratingforColinasheseemstofumblearoundthepost-apocalypticstreetssearchingforsomepurpose.

AsColinshufflesaroundthecity,weareintroducedtosomeincrediblespecialeffects.ThebarrenLondonstreetscreateanominoustoneofashatteredworld.Thezombiesareextremelywelldoneandthereisplentyofgore…fromgut-rippingscenestoascenewherezombiesoverwhelmagroupofhumansinasplit-levelhouse,thereisdefinitelyenoughzombie-actiontogoaround.
LaterinthefilmweareintroducedtoColin’ssisterwhorescuesColinfromtwothievesandthenflees.WelatermeetbackupwithherasColiniskidnappedwithaburlapsackoverhisheadandbroughttoanearbyhousewhereheistied-upinthebathroom.HissisterattemptstorecoversomesemblanceofColin’shumanityinaverystarksceneinthefilm.AsshepleadswithColintorememberwhosheisbyshowinghimpicturesofhispastlife.TheunresponsiveColinisvoidofemotionandismoreinterestedinherflesh.Colinisthentakentoseehismotherinaheart-wrenchingscenetowardstheendofthefilm.
Bytheendofthefilm,wegettoseehowColinbecameinfectedandMarcPricedoesanexcellentjobofcapturingthatsenseofhopelessnessanduncertaintythatpermeatesthemoreinterestingofzombiefilms.
Thefilmdoesn’treallyhaveadirectnarrativeordirectionyetitputsyoudirectlyintothefilmandyoureallyfeellikeyouareonthisjourneyofself-discoverywithColinashetriestoadapttoawholenewworld.It’ssomethingthathasneverreallybeenattemptedbeforeandisartfullydone.Equallyimpressiveisthatthefilmwasmadeforvirtuallynobudgetandwascompletedbyfriendsandassociateswhojustwantedtomakethefilm.Thefilmisveryraw,quickoftenshakycameraworkthatmakesyoufeelapartoftheactionlikeyou’vebeenthrustintothisbleakexistencewiththecast.
